Houston has a lot to offer, but sometimes activities can start adding up and get in the way of your budget. We’ve compiled (and will update frequently) a list of places and activities that are totally free for Houstonians and visitors to check out!
The Menil Collection – If you enjoy art, beautiful lush lawns and the opportunity for a fun picnic, you definitely need to check out the Menil Collection!
Levy Park – This park screams family friendly! This gorgeous green space has a dog park, activity lawn, live performances, community gardens and even a playground complete with a splash area for little ones to cool off!
Buffalo Bayou Park – This Houston gem has endless activities. Lounge on the lawn, take your pups for a swim in one of the two dog parks, walk the nature trails or take your bikes and zoom around the trails.
Hermann Park- Hermann Park is another Houston beauty. Tour the beautiful gardens, visit McGovern Centennial Gardens and walk up to the top of the hill for a spectacular view! Roam around the Japanese garden and stop and smell the roses!
Memorial Park- If you enjoy sports, this park is for you! Run the 3 mile loop, bike the trails surrounding, or use the driving range to hit some golf balls.
Miller Outdoor Theatre- Miller outdoor theatre has been a favorite among Houstonians for many years. Enjoy free performances from musical groups, theatre groups and much more. Be sure to check the calendar for upcoming performances.
Discovery Green- This multifunctional park in the heart of Downtown Houston has a LOT to offer! Check their website frequently for free shows, exhibitions or visit for yourself and enjoy all it has to offer!
Houston Arboretum – The arboretum is a beautiful park where you can experience nature firsthand. Try one of the many walking trails and see all kinds of wildlife in their habitat!
Port of Houston Public Boat Tour- Take a trip on the water for this 90-minute educational trip around the Houston Ship Channel. Learn about the port’s history and Houston’s maritime history.
James Turrell Skyspace- This fascinating installation near Rice University by James Turrell shows you the Houston sunset and twilight hours like you’ve never seen it before! This is a Houston must-see! Check the website for optimal viewing times.
Brazos River Park- This park has 67 acres of adventure for the whole family. Hike some of the trails, take a family picnic or enjoy nature in the middle of the huge park!
